What is FIP?
Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a very serious diagnosis that, up until recently, almost always resulted in death. FIP is a disease caused by a mutation of the feline enteric coronavirus (FECV), which is caused by exposure to the feline coronavirus (FCoV).

This unavailability caused desperate cat owners to purchase the compound from unregulated, black-market sources, often from overseas merchants.
American compounding pharmacies were officially allowed to dispense compounded GS-441524 to patients on June 1st, 2024. The FDA clarified their stance, explaining that while compounded medications are not FDA-approved and therefore not "legal," they do not intend to take enforcement actions for compounded medications intended for animal use. This broad statement opened up the door to allow compounded GS-441524 in the United States.
